Microsoft Campus & Academic Select
License AgreementsLicensing Terms
We have three agreements to cover SIUC's needs:
- Microsoft Campus Agreement - New: the BackOffice Client Access License has been replaced by the Core Client Access License (Core CAL).
One of the key differences is that the Core CAL does not include a SQL Server CAL. Faculty and staff may continue to run the most current versions of any of the licensed products or any previous version of the software on University-owned machines or leased PCs or Macs. Faculty and staff also may run one copy of the software for University-related activities on a computer that they own or lease.
Because Core CAL does not include SQL server licensing, if you are currently running SQL server, you must determine how it is licensed. There are 2 possible methods: (1) per processor (2) per server and each client accessing the server. If the SQL server is licensed per processor, this change should not make a difference for you. If the SQL server is licensed per server, then you must ensure that each device accessing the server has purchased a SQL CAL. This SQL Client Access License is available from CDWG at educational pricing.
- Microsoft Academic Select Agreement - faculty & staff may order applications, systems or server software at a discount based on the volume of licenses purchased at SIUC.
This agreement enables the purchase of any software NOT included in the Campus Agreement. A buyer may purchase his or her desired product or the product with software assurance that allows for upgrades during the lifetime of this agreement. Software assurance may only be purchased at the time of the software purchase. If assurance is not chosen, the buyer may only upgrade by purchasing a new license.
- Academic Student Select Enrollment Option - students may purchase certain licenses and software products at significant discounts.
Software covered under each of the three Agreements listed above is available on the software information page.
