Instructions for setting up SIU 56K dial-up on Windows XP
*Note: In order to use the Preferred 56K dial-up connection, you must have purchased this service from Telecommunications Service. You were given a username and password when you signed up. The access number for the Preferred 56k dial-up is 536-2900. These instructions below apply to both the Free and Preferred 56K dial-up connections, only the username, password, and access number are different.
1. Open up Internet Explorer by clicking on the blue “e” icon on your desktop, programs menu, or “Start” bar.
2. Click on “Tools”
3. Choose “Internet Options”
4. Click on the “Connections” tab
5. Click on “Setup”
6. The New Connection Wizard will appear and guide you through setting up a dial up connection.
Click “Next”

7. Select “Connect to the Internet”
Click “Next”
8. Choose “Set up my Internet Connection Manually”
Click “Next”
9. Select “Connect using a dial-up modem”
Click “Next”
10. In the white box underneath “ISP Name” type in whatever you want to name your connection. In this example, we named our connection “SIU 56K connection.”

11. In the white box underneath “Phone number,” type 453-2888. The use of a hyphen is optional.
Click “Next”
12. In Windows XP it is possible to have more than one user profile. If you choose “My use only,” then only you will be able to use the connection. In this example, we chose “Anyone’s use” so all users that log in to your computer can access the internet.
Click “Next”
13. Type in your User Name next to “User Name.” Type your password twice, then click “Next”.
14. Place a checkmark in the “Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop” box.
Click “Finish”
15. Close Internet Explorer, and look on your desktop. You should see an icon that looks something like the one pictured here.
Double-click on the icon.
16. Click on “Dial.”
You will know you are connected when you see this icon at the bottom right hand corner of the screen near the time.
